The browser is divided into three areas:
· Navigation Pane where you can see a list of topics for selection.
· Toolbar where you can select how the Navigation pane is used:
· Table of Contents, Index, Word Search, or Glossary.
· Topic Viewing Area where you can read the selected information.
There are also Browse buttons (see the image below), which allow you to move forward and backward through the manual, and are equivalent to turning the pages of a book. Click the 'X' button if you wish to hide the navigation pane - to re-open, click one of the icons: Contents, Index, Search, or Glossary.
The online documentation is organised into separate manuals; one for each major subject area - you will see the names of the manuals in the contents list on the left. When you select one of the manuals, a list of topics for that manual is shown. The topic currently displayed in the viewing area on the right has its name highlighted in the contents list on the left; this allows you to keep track of your position in the manual - see example below:
If you need to quickly look-up a subject in the book, you may wish to use the index or the search facilities. The index has a list of keywords listed in alphabetical order, while the search facility allows you to find all occurrences of a word throughout the whole set of manuals.
When you click the glossary icon the navigation
pane on the left is used to display a list of terms in alphabetical order.
When you click a term its definition is shown in the small window at the
bottom - see the example on left.
The glossary allows you to look-up a term while reading a topic in the
viewing pane on the right.
